Laurence Maurice "Buck" Clark
The next item presents a bit of a mystery which only surfaces some years later. In June, 1937 Buck was issued a Certificate of Service for the United States merchant marine. The certificate amounts to something of a license to become a merchant seaman. To the best of my knowledge he never used that license. By that what I really mean is that I have no recollection of any story of buck going off to sea.
As I was going through his military service papers in preparation for publishing this website I decided to provide links to the Canadian Department of Veteran's Affairs website which has an explanation of what each service medal means. One of his medals was only awarded for service in the merchant navy and the service must have been at sea. To jump directly to the medals page, click HERE.
Although I was not aware of Buck's certificate at the time, thirty-four years later I too obtained the same thing!
Buck's Certificate of Service is pictured below.
