| John Leonard seems to have started his working life as a
teacher near Watford. He later became a druggest by apprenticing at the
drug store of a Mr. McDiarmid in Alvinston. |
 |
| After completing his apprenticeship in 1892 John Leonard
bought the drug and stationary business in the little town of Glencoe.
This picture was taken some time between 1892 and 1905. When I visited
Glencoe in 1999 the building was still standing and still recognizable.
The Royal Bank of Canada where son Harley would work years later is just
to the left. |

| The date of this photo of the inside of the drug store is
also unknown. Notice the great old parlor stove and the curved glass
display cases! The stationery items are on the left side of the store
& pharmacy items on the right. Look at the details in the enlarged
view. |

| This is the house in Glencoe where John Leonard and Bea
Martyn Luckham started to raise their two children, Thomas Harley, and
Lorna. John Leonard was an active and prominent member of the local
Presbyterian church, civic clubs and local government. |
